Hi Kasi, I’m writing this to let you know what life is like since having weight loss surgery. I can honestly say I am so glad I had the surgery. My one regret is not being able to have it when I was 10 years younger with less damage to my knees, but I won’t dwell on that.
It has been worth it, despite the roller coaster of emotions. I realized what a dependence I have on food to handle those emotions, to help me feel better when I feel worthless. Food is still a temptation, but now there are other temptations that you would never think you would have; temptations that will test your marriage, your values and your self-worth. At times it will make you feel desirable and the next moment worthless. But know deep down you are still the same strong, loving, intelligent and beautiful woman no matter what size.
This journey will tell you who your true friends are, who loves you and who supports you. Fortunately, it is a lot of people. And the even better part is all the friends and support you have with RMAP, work and in your neighborhood. You will ride a bike again and your neighbors will cheer for you as they see you ride around the block with a big smile on your face.
It is WONDERFUL to be able to play with the kids and do what they are doing without worrying about breaking the playground equipment. Climbing ladders, going down slides, climbing ropes and running around with them will bring you pure joy.
It has been fun shopping now, clothes look so much better and there are better options…you don’t have to settle isn’t there great?! It gets better and better the smaller you get!
It has been a roller coaster, but you won’t want to miss the ride. The joy, exhilaration, the fear, uncertainty, again mixed with pride and happiness all because you will continue to persevere and will continue to succeed at reaching your weight goals as well as personal goals. It’s still a journey, but then again, isn’t that life?
