I have struggled with weight all of my life. A constant yo-yo, up and down since I was 10 years old. In 2015, at 49 years of age, I tipped the scales at nearly 300 pounds, and I knew it was time to do something. I had diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and irritable bowel syndrome. The simplest and easiest things to do in life were now a big feat; like going to the bathroom, climbing stairs, picking up something off of the floor, taking a bath, etc. My quality of life was rapidly deteriorating and I was so unhappy and unhealthy.
A close friend of mine told me about Dr. McKinlay and how he was her surgeon when she had the same procedure done. I did not get on the phone and call right away. In fact, I waited several months. When I talked to her again, she got on me and told me to call his office RIGHT NOW! So I did, and they had me watch an orientation via the internet. The next day, I called back and the receptionist got me in the next week so I could get going. I started consulting in April of 2015, and then finally had the surgery in July of 2015.
My life started changing drastically just a few months after the surgery. I started having energy like I did when I was in my 20’s. I had a clear and sharper mind. I could climb a flight of stairs without my knees hurting or getting winded. I no longer got migraines. I could sleep better at night and quit snoring. I could shave my legs and paint my toenails. I could sit in my car and drive without being squished by the seat belt. I could sit Indian Style on the floor and crawl around and play with my twin nephews. I started shopping in the regular size department at Kohl’s (and wow…so much more of a selection!) and could buy jeans that zipped up!
Life is such a joy now! I have so much energy and am happier than I have been I a long time. My self-esteem is great, I am off of all of my medications, and I am not in pain anymore due to being overweight. I play bass and sing in a band on weekends, and when I was overweight, I had to sit on a stool while I performed. Now I can stand up and enjoy entertaining AND enjoy my passion for playing music. My quality of life is back!
I enjoy life to the fullest now and am thankful for my good health. I am so grateful to Dr. McKinlay and his wonderful staff. They have changed my life! Oh my gosh…it’s good to be alive!
