Dr. Nicholas Paulk is a native of Salt Lake City, where he earned his undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Utah. He attended medical school at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in Portland, Oregon, and completed his general surgery residency at Exempla St. Joseph’s in Denver, Colorado. In 2011, he returned to Salt Lake City to practice General Surgery with an emphasis on advanced laparoscopy and robotic techniques. In 2016 he joined Rocky Mountain Associated Physicians to further specialize in bariatric surgery, where he continues to focus on minimally invasive and robotic approaches to weight-loss surgery.

Dr. Paulk is board certified in both general surgery and obesity medicine, making him the only physician in Utah with dual board certification. This distinction places him among the most highly qualified obesity specialists in the region. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

As one of the state’s preeminent experts in the treatment of obesity, Dr. Paulk offers comprehensive, individualized care that may include surgery, medical weight loss, or a combination of both. His approach is rooted in the belief that effective obesity treatment must be personalized, evidence-based, and compassionate.

Dr. Paulk is married with three children. When not in the operating room or clinic, he can be found exploring Utah’s mountains on a mountain bike or skis, supporting his daughter at cheer competitions, or adventuring with his family in slot canyons and at Lake Powell.
